The shutdown impacts the online capabilities of some older EA titles and EA has been evaluating options to keep services up and running, according to the blog post. However, online services for the games will be closed down at the end of June as the company does not currently have a solution due to technical challenges and concerns about the player experience.

A ray of hope out there... I've [finally] upgraded successfully by just rebooting the iphone on the dock and clicking between iphone and iTunes store. I think it was just patience, faith in karma and luck in getting through a window to the store to finish the upgrade. I still get the error (-9838) due to traffic I assume but I'm current and I have a working phone. Thank to everyone for the company and posts while I sweated this out. I'm having the same problem. I keep asking myself why I put up with this? How can a company produce such a great product that they know people want and not be prepared for the influx of software updates and the data that comes alone with it?
